English coordinator

We at Muktangan believe in education for the community by the community. We are searching for dynamic people to join our unique Muktangan project, set up in early 2003. 

The Muktangan project trains women from low income communities as child-centred, English medium inclusive educators to teach the children from their own communities. The model has been found relevant and practicable not only by the Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (MCGM) and others in the field of urban education, but also by many NGOs with rural / tribal educational projects.

Job description

 :

The English coordinator will be responsible for the leading and coordinating whole English department of the school, which focuses on teaching English to the Muktangan teachers and the trainee teachers in the English Language, to strengthen their oral, written and reading skills. He / She will have a dynamic and diverse job, which requires passion for teaching, commitment to the project, good social skills, autonomy and creativity. The role of the English coordinator will evolve with the development of the school and of the English department, the candidate will thus have to adapt himself / herself and the English department to the new situations as they appear.
Key responsibilities :
  • Coordinate the English program for Muktangan teacher training centre and Muktangan teachers.
  • Leading weekly meetings with English teachers to discuss the week’s lessons
  • Visit English classes to give feedback to the teachers and to see what are the needs
  • Deal with volunteers
  • Complete the school’s English syllabus
  • Gather teaching material
  • Lead Saturday English classes
  • Broaden the teachers’ cultural knowledge
  • Deal with any issue related to the English department as they appear

Qualifications / Experience

 :
  • Formal training in ESL
  • Minimum 2 years experience in teaching English as a second language (references required)
