Teachers and trainees are drawn from the same communities as the children and their parents. They face the same issues and speak the same languages. This enables the teacher and the preschooler to connect in this strange new world!
The mode of teacher training:
It is conducted within a school setting where teachers, trainees and children mingle freely with one another on a daily basis, giving everyone an opportunity to learn from each other.
Theory is never divorced from practice!
The structure of teacher training:
The training is modular in design, providing the teachers with the possibility of progressing from the preschool to higher levels in contrast to traditional training which focuses on one specific level only, often leading to discontinuity in school programmes. Muktangan teachers, being aware of the uninterrupted nature of the child development sequence and having committed themselves to a continuity of approach, are fully equipped to deal with the changing learning needs of children as they develop.
Interns are assigned to specific classes and interact with children at the end of the academic year for an internship period of 2 months.
Training includes participation in daily planning meetings in which teachers undertake guided curriculum planning based upon their documented classroom observations of the response of individual children during the process of learning.
Teacher training groups do not exceed 25, thereby enabling meaningful group discussions to take place.
