How is Ganpati made? Parents help teachers to take children on a field trip.
Over the years, parents have been the strongest advocates of Muktangan's caring approach to learning. This has been achieved through the following initiatives:
Every teacher is encouraged to develop a special relationship with her group of parents through home visits,
Parents themselves participate and reflect upon the learning experiences provided for their children during monthly parent meetings,
Classes are offered to those who wish to improve their own language and literacy skills,
Some enthusiastic parents opt to undertake the Muktangan training to become teachers themselves,
Class-wise, volunteer groups of parents that have been set-up.
Through these interactions, parents are better able to express their concerns, while allowing the teacher to address them on a one-to-one level. Parents sometimes compare their child's learning with those in other schools. They express concern about the delay in the teaching of reading and writing. These parental concerns are put to rest in Muktangan when during classroom visits they see the more rapid progress of the older children compared to those in other schools.
