The most enthusiastic parents opt to undertake the Muktangan training to become teachers themselves. For R.Gawei, “It is not a Muktangan school but like a home.”
Muktangan as a community development project.
Paragon Charitable Trust is consciously seeking through Muktangan to impact the educational perspectives and status of the target communities.
Community partnerships are further developed through:
Monthly interactive parent meetings/workshops and displays of students’ work, in which the teachers seek to change the existing educational paradigms of the parents
Home visits once per term
Classroom participation by parents
Detailed qualitative progress reports discussed in one-to-one meetings with parents twice in the year
Literacy and other educational classes for parents
A Health programme conducted by a local medical practitioner
Emerging social issues dealt with by a qualified social worker leading to outreach programmes within the larger community
Muktangan-trained teachers becoming ‘Change Agents’ within the target communities
