Muktangan, an initiative of Paragon Charitable Trust, is a pioneering educational programme with an innovative model, working in close partnership with the Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (MCGM) and a number of NGOs across the country.

Muktangan, has pioneered the Whole School-Based approach in the urban sector by developing a model that incorporates all the various aspects of quality education: the classroom environment , the curriculum and content, the teacher (whom we train from the community members) as a facilitator and the student as an active learner.

Muktangan which began as a pilot balwadi now spans seven English-medium Municipal schools with its own integrated teacher training program, and has impacted several other implementing organizations through an outreach programme. 

Besides the academic programme, music plays a large role in Muktangan.  All Muktangan schools are community-based, actively involving the parents and teachers.

In order to consolidate and grow Muktangan, we need :

1.

Faculty

An experienced Primary / Secondary English-medium Teacher with creativity who would enjoy training teachers drawn from economically disadvantaged communities, to teach at the Primary level. 

The work would include facilitating daily planning meetings with a group of around 20 teachers, to be followed up by supportive visits to the classrooms of the teachers in our seven schools all located in close proximity in Prabhadevi, Parel and Worli.
2.

Western Music Teacher

A Western Music Teacher preferably full-time to teach music (singing and percussion) to the Muktangan children (currently ages 3-12).  The teacher should be able to play the keyboard.
3.

Social Workers

Social Workers who would lead or assist in Muktangan’s community programme. The   role of the Community Programme team is to:

Provide the interface between the community (mainly parents) residing in the Worli, Parel and Prabhadevi areas and Muktangan.
Build relationships with the communities and advocate the Muktangan model.
Counsel teachers on further studies and family and social problems that affect professional life.
Design and implement a health programme for faculty and teachers.
Conduct counseling sessions with parents and workshops to address social issues that affect children and are aimed at enhancing parenting skills.
Plan need based income generation activities.
Conduct periodic home visits for identified cases needing support.

Candidates for all the above posts would need to be passionate about education…
